It's that time again...

And by “that time” I mean Friday, the day I tell you what I’ve been obsessing over for the past week.  Today, the fixation I share with you is called “Kin’iro No Corda: Primo Passo” and is an anime.  Apparently, it was adapted from a Playstation game, but the anime doesn’t feel like a game at all.

It’s one of the typical “school life” types of anime, but it’s interesting because they are students at an elite academy that has a special program for the musically gifted.  The story surrounds a year-long musical contest/exhibition, where some of the best musicians are chosen to perform competetively against one another.  They actually put snippets of the characters’ performances on the show, and they pick some really great classical pieces.

The main character, Hino Kahoko, is a student in the general course of study, not the music program.  She’s never touched an instrument before in her life.  Then a music fairy gives her a magical violin that basically plays itself, she just has to hold it.  Suddenly, she finds herself thrown into the contest, up against a group of students who’ve been playing their instruments since they were little kids.  Some of them welcome her with open arms, like Kazuki Hihara, who is really exuberant about everything and a great trumpet player.  Others, like the flutist Azuma Yunoki, treat her like crap because she’s a nobody and she thinks she’s capable of competing with them.

There are 5 guys in the competition, and only two girls.  I’m pretty sure all five of them are in love with Kaho because she’s pretty and headstrong and works really hard, but as of episode 14,  Hihara is the only one who’s admitted it.  I predict things getting ugly between a couple of the guys.  I also predict that Kaho won’t win the contest, it will be someone totally unexpected, like the other girl competing or something.  I’m probably wrong.

Interested in watching?  I’ve been watching it at this website, and I don’t know if there are DVDs available for this, so online is probably your only option.  Feel free to look around, though.
