Konami - Figumate: Shakugan no Shana II: Hirai Yukari (平井ゆかり)

NEGI FEVER!!! Hello everyone, I am glad to bring you my first review on a character from the series of Shakugan no Shana, Hirai Yukari. Hirai is a minor character that is only in the first few episodes of Shakugan no Shana and was forgotten. I have no idea why she is in the Shakugan no Shana Second Figurmate set but we are not going to worry about that now.

Name: Hirai Yukari (平井ゆかり)

Toy Line: Figumate

Manufacturer: Konami

Released: August 2008

Series: Shakugan no Shana (灼眼のシャナ)

This trading figure is part of a series containing 8 random figures.

The Packaging

This is a nice little box. On each side of the box it shows four out the eight possible characters to collect in the series.

The Base

The red base has one point to hold the figure, as it is a small figure that is all it needs. Something that you are not able to see on the base is the white insignia written on it like a magical circle used when casting spells.

The Figure

Although this figure did not impress me I do like the design and cuteness of them. Their are some minor joints that you are able to move they are the arm, head and pigtails.

Oh yes I did forget to mention that the arms do tend to come off easily.

“Hand over your soul!”

Nice Hair Cut!

Overall I am very please with it and recommend it to all Shakugan no Shana fans and collectors of cute things. Its a great item to display on your desk wheather its at home, school or work. Just one look at it and you are filled with determination to compleate what ever task that you are assigned. I just wished I had this with me in my exams!

The cost is not too bad, I paid around $10 for it so umm yeah. I know on the box it says 400 yen equivelent to around $4.60 if you were in Japan (I will be their soon).

Overall Rating…. 8/10

Night Shift

I work in an airport. About three or four times a month, I work a night shift. It messes up my sleeping patterns, although not overwhelmingly more so than your average late-night online Playstation session (yes, that is one of my problems). But apart from that, the graveyard shift brings with it certain advantages: better pay, relaxation, and if there’s no traffic, you can pull out the foldaway bed and have a little kip. Or write a meaningless blog.

It also allows you to jump into youtube and explore videos and themes in a sort of stream of consciousness that rattles the hours away amidst the eerie silence of night – the kind only fully appreciated by insomniacs (whether by choice or by profession).

Anyhoos, tonight I was watching a few AMVs (Anime Music Video: fan-made music videos using songs spliced together with excerpts from Anime). Some people have an extremely keen eye (and ear) for that sort of thing. And I think even the most unimaginative amongst us have gone through that moment – maybe just walking down the street, or driving late at night – when we couldn’t get a certain song out of our head, thinking how awesome it would be if someone could see what we were seeing, and hear what we were hearing (albeit in our heads). Think Being John Malkovich. But with the music of your choice.

So, here’s one that caught my eye:

And there are live action versions, too. Out of all the fan videos using Coldplay’s Fix You, this one stands out a mile:

Great song, great film, and all the obvious links between images and lyrics notwithstanding, the creator has added some truly inspired touches, such as the bit with the light-bulb (1.17), or the car and Ash’s fall synchronized with the drums kicking into life (2.00).

I’d like to start dabbling in this sort of thing myself, sometime. One day, when I find the time. Ha ha ha.

Right, last flight just departed. Now got a couple of hours until the first early morning one. Was going to watch Zatoichi, but my eyelids are going through that inexplicably pleasant drooping-drooping-slowly lifting again phase. Time for a nap.

non-monthly roundup

cue blaxploitation music

DTB2 – looking around the internets I’m glad I’m not the only one confused by the ending but at least it was entertaining throughout. Kanna Asuke has drawn some awesome fan art of the series.

Spice and Wolf light novel 1 – really enjoyed the banter between Lawrence and Holo and the many facets of Holo’s character. 6 months between each release sucks much more than the ugly cover and people should be complaining about that instead (though JoJo’s release schedule sucks even more).

Sunred 40 – The New Year’s episode was almost kind of educational, for me anyway. Lol at Armor Tiger not getting any screentime. Kayoko’s new haircut <3.

Ping Pong live-action – rented it thinking it was based on the manga Ping Pong Club when in fact its based on a manga of the same name by the mangaka of Tekkonkinkreet so I suppose I should like it but I couldn’t shake how boring and long the whole thing was. I didn’t really like any of the characters and Peco who I suppose was meant to carry the movie was particularly annoying.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei manga Volume 3 – Kumeta’s chapter comments are awesome. While I appreciate the effort and its kinda interesting some of the translation notes just seem a bit pointless especially when they mention person without any further explanation. The hibernating chapter made me laugh the most.

Paprika

Some of my biggest influences come from the Anime art form. No, these are not childish “cartoons”. They are animated films that sometimes take years to perfect. You know you’ve found a great one when it has the ability to take you into a world you never imagined could exist. One such animated film is Paprika. Another is Tekkonkinkreet. There is also Tokyo Godfathers, My Beautiful Girl Mari and Spirited Away. I think every Visual Artist should watch these films.

Super Mario Theme

Enjoy Super Mario? Like Anime? Ever seen how many sounds a voice actor can make?

The character in this video is Konata, from the anime Lucky Star. She is kind of a representative of me, as she love anime, manga and likes making comments on the world she lives in. The thing that really drew me in was how many sounds she makes! She has a sound when she’s eating, when she’s monologuing, and when she’s trying to get her friend’s attention. An enjoyable watch, but most of all it’s funny. ^__^

It's like 10:30 pm, and I'm ripping my hair out...>=0

-_- This is upsetting. It seems like the whole world has converted to Hetalia. What’s worse…that person’s in that fandom too! -_- And she completely outdid me in starting a fanfic about the Philippines! >=[ Seriously, this ruined my night.

It all started when I finally decided to begin my character design on my Hetalia OC, Philippines. I researched and all and began doodling a rough sketch of a manga panel. ^^” I’ve been slightly successful but then I grew tried. I took a break and read some Hetalia manga for a while online. Then, I decided to return to the FF.net (how typing up its URL brought shivers to my spine) to read some het Hetalia fics (xD). And so I searched ‘Philippines Hetalia’ and was presented with two stories. Among the two authors, I found one rather familiar. I visited her profile and wondered which fic of hers I read before. -_- And you know who she was?

…never mind. The feeling that came to me afterwards was like spine-tingling and uncomfortable. That annoying person…out to steal my readers once more. -_- Oh, just you wait…just you wait. And don’t you dare say that I plagiarized! >=[ I had the idea the moment I made that post in the forum. And I’ve been working on it in my brain.

AHA! Now I get it. My new resolution shall be to complete a fan fiction series and then begin a new one! >=D …I think I should finish Terror Tales at Ouran first. Yes, yes, I guess that should do it. Then I should read whatever I’ve missed out on the Ouran manga. Seriously, I’ve missed a whole lot of chapters, and I’m straying from the topic.

-_- So, yeah, whatever. I won’t take this as a loss. I’m going to take this as a challenge. Hm, should I make this Yaoi? … … *remains pondering for a bit longer* … …

… …

-_-” I can’t decide. Well, anyways, I’ve got the character for Philippines already as well as his sketches. (Note, they mildly suck since I have less skill with the pencil than I have with a pen. -_-)

Stay tuned for the next post~!

Gifts from Home~

Parents just got back from Singapore and after the 3am go pick em up session my brain has finally got the rest it has deserved over the past busy week and this coming week, omg so much spare time with 2 days a week at work, you’d expect me to be online drawing and ranting more~ Lets get movin :3~

So When they come back I got a bunch of stuff as well, mostly asian stuff but you guyse will get over it. Firstly I would like to mention i got a new batch of art supplies:

A couple of School pens and Kabura pen nibs for manga.

And 0.35 Graphgear mechanical pencils and a failed 0.5 inking pens… they were supposed to be 0.05 but sister made a mistake, looks like i will have to use the nibs alot more.

Next although its usually Jeffo (Gao) that does the gundam stuff i managed to get my hands on volume 3 of Advance of Z as well as a TR-1 RX121-1 Hazel Gundam.

Source is here:

I am a big fan of the Advance of Z mechas, and once agian this is saved up for another rainy day when i decide i have nothing to do… still yet to finish that Aegis gundam.

I got a couple of keychains for friends…

and last but not least… My lightning edition 250gb PS3!!!!!! :D

Jizz worthy and so awesome, i havent unpacked it yet but i probably should after my parents clear the living room of luggage. So far the orgasmic feelings havent left and i am dying to get it open, my inner fan boy squeals are being controlled and my shaking hands cannot stop shaking at the pure awesomeness that i have just recieved.

It costs about 540+ aus so its not too bad although i reccommend people start getting some cause these are limited and will go up in price to abotu 1000+ in the future. Source: I dunno some salesman in Singapore.

All in all my sister got a bunch of manga that we can share… 2010 is looking fucking fantastic so far.So much to look forward to! Well a review for FF13 will be coming soon… :) Till then Guyse…
