Hayate no Gotoku ep 24: Date btw Hina & Ayumu

OMG! This is such a squee-worthy episode, even more than usual! I love Hina and Ayumu soooooooooo much!

First thing to note is that this episode is filled with not only a lot of “So awesome!”, “Kyaaaaaaaa” and “Awwwwwwwwwwww” moments, but also beautiful images of night scenery centered around the city, sakura and Ferris Wheel. So here are some shots to begin the episode with:

Continued from last episode, Hina has something to confess to Ayumu about.

However, Ayumu wants to hold the talk at another location

Ayumu wants to hold the discussion at the top of the 100m Ferris Wheel, but…

Ayumu loves the view from the top of the Ferris Wheel,

but as for Hina…

Ayumu asked if Hina was afraid of heights, to which this tsundere’s reaction is

Following Murphy’s Law, the Ferris Wheel stopped moving midway

Ayumu’s solution is for Hina to distract herself by singing,

but Ayumu was actually kidding and didn’t expect Shizuka Hina to sing

Ayumu finally draws the episode plot back to where it was supposed to go

Meanwhile, Nagi has gone missing at Sakuya’s party.

Fyi, Nagi didn’t answer the call. Sakuya and Hayate then set out to look for her. Sakuya then asks the question all fans (who didn’t read the manga) wants to know.

Hayate reveals that he has an older brother.

Sakuya is a true friend who understands Nagi well.

Back to Ayumu and Hina.

Ayumu is confident that she wouldn’t lose.

Ayumu has a question for Hina.

Back to Nagi’s story, since she’s the main character. After losing her mother and possibly Himegami, Nagi fears eventually losing Maria, Hayate, and everyone around her. Hayate tries to cheer her up.

But results weren’t the desired outcome..

Nonetheless, Nagi regains her trust in Hayate and the rest.

After achieving a Happily Ever After outcome here, Sakuya has a present for Nagi and her own party.

Next week on HnG

Nagi is sick.

Hina is in a blue-meido outfit?

Hayate activates his Geass?!

Apparently next week will be the last episode of HnG. 25 eps is too short! A third season is needed!

Fall animu 2009 (Take 2)

To view full image, "Right click -> View image"

Quite some time ago, I wrote a post on my impressions on anime that’s airing this fall.

But recently, chartfag posted the second (and more infomative) version of what’s coming up for fall.

So, here’s my second take on my impressions…for the upcoming fall anime.

Unrelated personal matters: School has started for me again, and exams are coming next month. Because of that, I may not even get to post anything. (Which explains the recent lack of posts.) It’s not as if people come to read my posts…but of course, I’ll still be watching anime and reading manga since it’s my source of motivation to work, lol.

Definitely watching:

To Aru Kagaku no Choudenjibou (A Certain Scientific Railgun) -

I’m watching this only because of Mikoto. I don’t care about that lesbian teleporter, that girl with the flower headband or any other character which I can’t remember their names.

Inuyasha:Final Act

Actually, I’m watching this because I loved the first season when I was a little kid. (You could say it’s one of my favorite “childhood anime”.)

But I don’t want to have to survive about 100+ episodes again though…

Miracle Train -

I see bishies on the promo picture.

Bishies = MUST WATCH.

Darker than BLACK: Gemini of the Falling Star -

The first season was awesome and I loved it, so I’m looking foward to this.

Also, I want moar Hei.

Katekyo Hitman Reborn! 10th Special -

I don’t know what’s this about, but as a fan, I must go check it out.

Shakugan no Shana S OVA -

^Same reason as above.

Probably watching:

Kobato -

I never read the manga, but I heard it was pretty good, so…

Letter Bee -

Same reason as Kobato.

The art also looks kinda cool.

Fairy Tail

Same reason as Kobato and Letter Bee.

Asura Cryin’ 2

I didn’t like the first season, but I might watch this as a obligation for finishing the first season.

Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu: Purezza

If I ever finish the finish the first season, that is.

Shugo Chara Party!

I’ll probably check out a few episodes.

Although I’m likely to drop it if it’s all filler and no manga plot. (Which is very likely.)

Everything else on that’s not mentioned here is pretty much meh and unlikely to watch.

Aoi Hana: Series Review

Finally, a non-filler post. I was ranting and raving about how amazing this anime was back when it started, and then, after I finished episode 4, I stopped watching it, and instead opted to wait for the series completion. Well, the series has now come and gone, leaving one question up in the air:

“Do I still think Aoi Hana was one of the best new anime of 2009?”

Aoi Hana

Before I get into a review that is bound to show spoilers, let me describe the basics of the show.

Premise: Two girls who used to be childhood best friends reconnect when one of them (Fumi) moves back home. Contains lesbians.

Now, first of all, the phrase, “Contains lesbians” should be a dead give-away that I like this show. I don’t know why I like shows with lesbians in them, but I do. So far, score one point for Aoi Hana right off the bat.

Aoi Hana – 1

Reasons to Not Like Aoi Hana – 0

How about the animation, was it up to par? Personally, not only could I not find a single mistake in the animation (although I never actually look for mistakes when I watch anime), but I also kind of liked the fuzzy sort of animation, as well as the color scheme. This is rare, as I do not usually like dull color schemes and fuzzy animation, but this was somehow different. I have never watched an anime with this type of animation, so it was good to see something new. Score another point for Aoi Hana

Aoi Hana – 2

Reasons to Not Like Aoi Hana – 0

So how about the story? This is where it gets hard to determine for me. The story was obviously good, because I found every episode enjoyable and easy to watch. I feel like I finished the series in no time at all (although it was only 11 episodes, which is nothing). But honestly, I feel as though…..oh hold on….(SPOILER)……I feel as though over the course of this anime, nothing really changed. I mean, sure, one could say that Fumi changed emotionally and yatta yatta yatta…..but who really cares. I want to see her end up with some girl at the end, even if it isn’t Akira. Like, at the beginning, she was single, and so was Akira. At the end, it’s the same situation. No couples formed. Nothing was really decided. That annoyed me. (SPOILER OVER). That being said, I award 300 points to Aoi Hana:

So now our standings look like this:

Aoi Hana – 302

Reasons to Not Like Aoi Hana – 0

Of course, just like “Who’s Line is it Anyway,” points don’t matter one bit in my review, so now I will hand out one award:

Best Character: Kyouko

You won.

I said, you won.

Wait…..Kyouko? Why is she the best character? You didn’t choose Fumi?

Fuck no I didn’t choose Fumi! Fucking Fumi sucks! Well, she doesn’t suck, but Kyouko is awesome, and I chose her for one of the following reasons:

  • Her character design is awesome with the short hair flipped to the side like that.
  • She’s just pretty cool.
  • She does art.

Okay, so I really only picked her because of the character design, because let’s face it, every character with the exception of Akira had pretty much the same personality, which involved one of the following things:

  • Crying
  • Blushing
  • Liking girls

Actually, all of the characters involved all of these things (besides Akira….and I guess a few other minor characters). So now, like any good writer does, I will conclude my review by circling back to the beginning to answer my initial question, “Do I still think Aoi Hana is one of the best new anime of 2009?”

I will say that while I did find this to be an enjoyable watch, It didn’t really blow me away much. It was definitely good, maybe even really good, but I can’t include it when talking about the top anime of 2009 (depending on the rest of the anime of 2009, which I am behind on). I believe that they should make a second season, that adds a conclusion of some sort (I don’t know if the manga or visual novel or whatever for Aoi Hana is still going on or not). Make an OVA series at least. Until then, I’ll give it a

FINAL GRADE = 5

but will also say that I thought reading the manga, Pieta, was more enjoyable (not to take anything away from Aoi Hana, but Pieta was fuckin great).

SIDE NOTE: I have finally updated My List, although I have yet to update and change my Top Ten.

  • Shadow Lady Band 1-3
  • Preis: 13 Euro

  • Card Captor Sakura New Edition Band 1
  • Preis: 1,50 Euro

Comic Einkäufe:

  • Secret Invasion 5-6
  • Spider-Man 65

Was ich mir endlich mal angesehen habe.

Leider kein so guter Ghibli Film. War mir doch etwas zu 08/15 mit der verkappten Liebesgeschichte.

So das hätten wir auch. Jetzt noch schnell das Video der Woche und dann schnell noch ein paar Anime ansehen.

Ein sehr geniales Video dieses mal. Wirklich Perfekt gemacht.

Afro Samurai

Afro Samurai represents everything that is wrong with anime; for that matter everything that’s wrong with modern entertainment in general. That’s a bold claim, I know, but its not without merit. From the moment this series came to public knowledge everyone was talking about it, I even heard some kids discussing the sequel (more on that later) one the train. Everyone went ape-shit gaga over the anime, not that Samuel L. Jackson and RZA aren’t some huge drawing points. To be perfectly frank one of the only things I really liked was Afro’s sidekick Ninja Ninja. He’s basically a character that brings out everything one loves about Jackson. Raunchy, dirty, off-the-wall, and cool-as-fuck. Seriously, why couldn’t this guy be the main draw? How perfect that he’d be some jive-talking cat who everyone assumes is an idiot but turns out to be some amazing fighter. Nope, we get a fairly silent and stoic (maybe nilistic) “Afro Samurai”. Finding the main fault of this series is easy, because it comes down to length – which effected everything else. If you go through any of my anime reviews on here you’ll find I sometimes get annoyed with 26 episode series; and this one is FIVE FREAKING EPISODES LONG! Were this a simple movie it might’ve worked, but instead the creators tried to stuff a fairly important back story and journey of revenge into one. It didn’t work and the entire thing felt like a mess. Reading the above should give you a fairly good idea of why Afro Samurai isn’t a winner in my book, but for a detailed SPOILER LADEN breakdown, keep reading after the jump.As mentioned above the main factor in all this mess was time. Here’s why:

  • Characters: Several interesting and complex characters were brought into the story. We don’t ever really know Afro’s father, so his death doesn’t honestly mean that much. Its only purpose is to introduce Justice and send Afro on his way. Afro is a horrible character because he’s so nihilistic that he lacks any sense of morals. This flaw is pegged entirely on the #2 headband; that its wearer is forever plunged into a world of murder, doomed to walk the earth alone and chased forever – unless they become #1. Ninja Ninja was okay because he was literally a conscious, but at the same time he felt like the classic Fool character in Shakespearean plays. We the audience are aware of him, and he speaks what we’re all thinking (or what Afro is); and yet every suggestion of his is overlooked. The Empty Seven group is barely given any chance to develop as some evil corporation. In fact they’re so built up as terribly powerful that their quick elimination is just offensive. I understand that Justice is the main adversary, but why not spend some time really showing Afro fight his way to #1. Why not show us that he himself is tired of this life – even if he desperately wants to seek revenge.
  • Plot: The Revenge genre relies on a conflicted character, someone who witnesses an act of evil and vows to do everything in their power to overturn the person responsible. Nothing gets in their way. At the same time they need a moral base, and that’s an important part of the plot – even going a bit into character as well. Think about Clint Eastwood in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. He certainly kills enough people, and doesn’t hesitate to – but he realizes the war is fruitless and that people are dying without need. The man with no name doesn’t kill innocent bystanders either, preferring to accept his fights one-on-one. In other words the plot builds him up as a remarkable gunslinger (but not prefect), and then gives him a Mexican standoff in the end to finalize his conquest, and as an ultimate show of character. Here the pacing gives us a brief glimpse of a scared child who watches his father die, he trains a bit, lets some people die, and then heads towards #1 to kill him. Somewhere along the lines he catches the attention of said 7 Brothers – except that their involvement in the plot is mute if anything. Oh yeah they’re “power hungry”; which doesn’t mean anything really. Especially since its unclear what the #1 head band does. Is it a metaphorical symbol of godliness, or (as shown with Justice) does it grant inhuman abilities? That final battle brought up one of the worst things ever: there were multiple head bands. Once I saw them I realized the creators had missed a wonderful opportunity to have Afro proceed through several tasks, and to conquer several masters. Think about Bruce Lee in Enter the Dragon. Not to mention that the final fight was a bit of a letdown. Basically there was this huge buildup and then things just stopped – that was it.
  • Dialogue: Way too much talking, way too little exposition. Its not that some of the talking wasn’t good (Ninja Ninja), its that much of it didn’t tell us anything. Flashbacks tell us almost nothing, and a lot of the dialogue is empty talk. Its stuff said to pass the time. The Empty Seven never tell us that much, and their mad-scientist is so randomly introduced that its not even funny. Much of the dialogue sounds like a monologue, but they’re never informative.

What I’m saying is this: between the expansive plot, the possibly intriguing characters and the crunched pacing this anime was doomed from the beginning. It wouldn’t have been that hard to fix. I’d point towards Gurren Lagann as an example of how to better do an anime. Break the series up into several arcs that eventually fulfill the major story arc (”You’ll be the drill that pierces the heavens!”). Introduce characters, let some leave, but show character growth. Simon goes from nervous and insecure child to leader of an entire crew of rebels, then president, and back to leader role. In other words, his initial purposes for the journey are changed, but he never forgets them. By breaking things up we’re allowed character growth, and more challenges to Simon in order to test him – and for him to show his worth. That the characters grow and change over time is wonderful. Were Afro Samurai done like that it would’ve been so much better.
